Ner Tamid (Eternal Light)

51"H x 43"W (2025)

Dedicated to my mother, Paula Reuben (b.1932 d.2021). This quilt reminds me of stained glass in my mother’s synagogue representing eternal light or Ner Tamid, the name of her congregation. My mother created many beautiful textile works in almost every medium except quilting. Because I started quilting relatively late in life, she died before I really found my groove. At 87 years old, she accompanied me to Quilt Con in Pasadena and saw the first quilt I ever had in a show. I see her aesthetic influence in many of my quilts and I am grateful for this unexpected connection to her. This quilt is made with raw-edged reverse applique. The blue and purple diamonds change from light shades at the bottom to darker shades at the top while the hand quilted spirals change from dark brown shades to lighter creating opposing ombre effects.

Ner Tamid (Eternal Light) was selected to exhibit at Quiltcon 2026 in the applique category.
